Akhtar Hussain saves the life of Nawab Salim and earns his gratitude. Salim invites Akhtar to his palatial home, and on the way, Akhtar meets the beautiful Saltanat and falls in love with her. At Salim’s house, Akhtar is treated with respect, given employment, and a place to live. Akhtar and Saltanat plan to marry, unaware that Salim also loves Saltanat. She rejects his advances, leaving him heartbroken. After marrying, Akhtar and Saltanat have a son. Salim becomes affectionate with the child, who grows to like him. Meanwhile, Akhtar falls into bad company, drinking alcohol and romancing a courtesan. When Saltanat discovers the affair, she confronts him, but Akhtar divorces her, leaving her and their child alone.
